Oakley Lab Sea Star
One of the most important questions in Marine Biology is how new species arise and shape the biodiversity of the ocean. Sea Star (previously WALL-E) was developed to answer this question by studying cypridinid ostracods, a 'sea firefly' with incredible biodiversity: many different subspecies output various light patterns which Sea Star catalogs. Sea Star is equipped with two cameras to record 3D videos of the bioluminescence, as well as a Photomultiplier Tube to record light levels with extreme precision.
