BanGO is a cause-and-effect mobility vehicle designed to support children with cerebral palsy between the ages of 6 months and 6 years. Currently available pediatric mobility devices primarily serve children with mild to moderate cerebral palsy, leaving children with higher-severity motor impairments few accessible options. BanGO addresses this gap by providing sensor-assisted mobility that promotes motor learning, cognitive development, and social engagement for children who are unable to operate traditional pediatric mobility devices. To help engage the child by making this a fun experience, the system also incorporates a vibrant musical theme!
BanGO integrates customizable input methods, such as guitar- and drum-themed sensors, to accommodate a broad spectrum of cerebral palsy presentations while providing physical support to ensure safe operation.
The project is sponsored in partnership with CCS and pediatric physical therapist Dr. Jane Harpster, whose supervision and clinical expertise guide the design requirements and testing process.
