United Sensors
AeroVironment provides designs and information solutions by developing unmanned aircraft systems. They are concerned about sensor failure during drone flight and want to find a solution using redundant sensors. Our team is developing a custom PCB to demonstrate multiple sensory redundancy support. This PCB will feature multiple sensors of the same type to prove that increased redundancy is possible and will be programmed using custom-built firmware and an Ardupilot instance. The enhanced redundancy code will be published to the open-source Arducopter library if they work as intended, and as our final goal, we would like to demo a flight using a quadcopter that features sensor failure mid-flight. We will demonstrate our work on a 2x2 plywood board, where all of the sensors will be attached for a “test flight” and showcase the production-ready PCB design.
