Description

Although smartphones and GPS have made navigation dramatically easier, it can still be extremely difficult for a visually impared individual to identify their location. Phone applications can show the surrounding area on a 2D plane, but require the user to interact heavily with the application to determine their physical context and surroundings. IntelliSight targets this problem by designing a pair of sunglasses, equipped with an inertial measurement unit (IMU), which quickly relay location information with a simple motion of the head. This device will directly capture the user's position and orientation, determine any landmarks or buildings present near the user, and relay the information to the user over audio. The IMU, battery, and Bluetooth module are all combined on a small footprint to fit on the sunglasses, with easy access to a charging port to improve usability.
