As electric vehicles operate at high power, their components heat up and have the potential to reach unsafe temperatures. Gaucho Racing (UCSB’s vehicle design team) is currently designing an electric vehicle to compete in national design competitions, which have defined these hazardous temperatures. This Capstone project is designed to extend the length of time before Gaucho Racing’s vehicle (GR-25) exceeds operating temperatures in order to complete an endurance event of roughly 20-25 minutes. This will be done with two cooling loops that implement convective cooling plates, a motor sleeve, pumps, a radiator, and cooled water reservoirs. The cooling loops will be secured to battery modules, motors, and inverters.
