G.A.R.I
In the world of consumer electronic devices, if a circuit board component fails, the entire board is thrown away. Aerospace grade circuit boards are extremely expensive to produce, meaning it is more cost effective to replace individual components on them in a process called rework. Currently all rework at Northrop Grumman is performed by hand by a technician. G.A.R.I is an automated solution that aims to remove the technician from the rework process. The user simply uploads the board layout to the software interface, places the board into the holder, and G.A.R.I. does the rest. G.A.R.I. utilizes a state of the art focused infrared heater to reflow the solder beneath a circuit board component before removing it, all while monitoring the safety of nearby parts with a best-in-class temperature sensing system. The broken component is then replaced with a new one, leaving the user with a functioning, reworked board. G.A.R.I. introduces never-before-seen automation to the rework industry.
