Steady Vision for Rocky Seas

Project Type:
Multidisciplinary
Year:
2022

Description

During the year 2020, there were more than 5000 boating accidents nationwide, which resulted in over 700 deaths, 3000 injuries, and $62,000,000 in property damages. In an effort to reduce the frequency and severity of these boating accidents, Spyglass is building a stabilized visible and infrared camera system geared towards sailboats which allows skippers to clearly see an unobstructed and horizontal view of the waters up to 2 boat-lengths ahead both during the day or night. Spyglass is a multidisciplinary team of electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and artists who have been working in close conjunction to tackle issues such as thermal management, waterproofing, camera stabilization, and exterior aesthetics to create the most optimal product possible.
