True Digital Surgery

True Digital Surgery develops digital exoscopes used in surgical procedures. A robotic arm can be moved around the operating bed to capture and display the surgery in 3D and high resolution. The end of the robotic arm that holds the camera also houses high intensity LEDs which illuminate the objective area and allow for the high quality pictures. Due to their high intensity and power dissipation, the LEDs are overheating the camera and surrounding housing. We are removing the heat at the camera objective and still providing the required high intensity light by using fiber optic bundles to guide light from a different location on the robot. Here, there is room for active cooling to be implemented to thermally regulate the LEDs. The UI panel allows for tunable light intensity and to control which types of light (UV, IR, fluoro, white light) are turned on. The fiber optics are routed along the robot and mounted next to the camera. The outputted light it collimated to provide an ample spot size of light.
