Dane Frederick is a member of the thermal, structural, waterproofing, and mechanical engineering  teams for the FLIR Helios project. Dane is a mechanical engineering student finishing his senior year at UCSB. Dane is currently an intern at Strand Products working as a design engineer to facilitate mechanical cable construction. He has experience working with design methods, creating solid models, soldering circuits, using electrical test equipment, creating manufacturing drawings, fabricating tools, product testing, quoting, and budgeting.

Dane also has research experience, where he has worked to characterize dynamic nonlinear phenomena in a high vacuum environment with fixed-fixed microbeams using data acquisition systems for mechanical and structural testing. He obtained experience with a DAQ, oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, and Laser Doppler Vibrometer from his research.

Lastly, Dane has many projects he has performed outside of school including: the design and construction of a working 3D printer, the replacement of the head gasket of a Volvo, many years of motorcycle mechanic experience, and many more projects.
