Bridging sensors into the digital world

Project Type:
Electrical Engineering
Year:
2021

Description

With the advancement of IC technology, digital systems offer many advantages to their analog counterparts. However, the world we live in is analog. The need for a wide range of analog to digital converters (ADCs) to process sensor data has never been greater. This is why we at SensrLink are proposing the design of a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) based ADC topology to address the analog scaling issue by using circuit blocks created almost entirely of digital circuits to perform analog functions. More specifically, we are designing our ADC using discrete components for the analog VCO front end, which interfaces with an FPGA for the digital backend. We are aiming to design a 10-bit resolution ADC that can be used with a wide array of analog sensors such as: audio, temperature, and light detection.
