Description

The Northrop Grumman Red Rover is a modular, mass-producible space exploration rover. Its use of standardized connection points and a compartmentalized design allows for multiple configurations suited for many different environments. The use of off-the-shelf consumer-grade electronics makes the Red Rover inexpensive and will dramatically decrease the time between design and launch in comparison to current space rover projects.

The Red Rover is separated into 3 different sections: the Brain, the Propulsion, and the Peripherals. The Brain consists of an enclosed box that houses the main computer as well as the power source for both the computer and all sensors. The Propulsion consists of the method of transportation and also contains a separate power source dedicated for movement. The Peripherals consist of all the sensors on the rover used for obstruction detection and environmental measurements. These 3 sections seamlessly cooperate with each other, allowing the rover to receive/send information, autonomously move to locations of interest, and perform mission tasks at these locations
