Medtronic Neurosurgery seeks to find an easier and more secure connection for their LP Strata Valve, which helps to treat hydrocephalus, a condition where excess cerebrospinal fluid is built up in a patient’s head. Due to the implantable nature of this device and limitations due to the surgical process, common solutions such as preattachment of parts or use of adhesives are not feasible. Our solution draws from a drug administration connection to securely create a permanent connection that does not require any tools to connect. The importance of an improved connection is that surgical time will be decreased, and thus patient safety will be increased.
