Less Track Out Heading Back Out

Project Type:
Mechanical Engineering
Year:
2022

Description

Every day, vehicles leaving Marborg’s downtown Santa Barbara facility track out around 80pounds of hazardous dirt and dust particulate onto the beautiful city streets. The company must spend over $150,000 to minimize this detrimental trackout, and our project aims to design amore viable solution to this problem.Wheely Clean is a tire-washing system designed to remove accumulated dirt from tire treads as vehicles exit the facility, reducing the amount of particulates leaving the facility. The cleaning subsystem incorporates a semi-passive bath to rinse off dirt from tire treads as vehicles roll through. A filtration subsystem will clean the contaminated water from the cleaning bath and produce non-potable water for reuse and overall sanitation of the system. To finish off, a drying subsystem is used to reduce wet trackout when vehicles leave the site, preserving the well-being of the community and the environment. Over a five year period, this project is anticipated to save hundreds of thousands of dollars for Marborg and other trash facilities across the nation.
