Description

FLIR® Systems Inc. needs a new high precision pan-tilt unit with zero backlash and ultra-high reliability to be added to the current Motion Control Systems product line. This project consists of designing a high precision 2-axis pan-tilt using a HarmonicDrive® gear train for high reliability and minimal backlash. The pan-tilt must be waterproof and designed for use in extreme environments. Industrial design and manufacturability will be important aspects of the design. Thermal analysis will need to be performed to properly manage the heat inside the enclosure. Additionally, the motors will be controlled using a Trinamics® motor driver module. Our solution is to design a reliable, high precision pan-tilt with a 15 lb maximum payload capacity.
